our story
Over a decade ago Ron Osborne came across a “going out of business” sign for an old appliance warehouse nested on Trollinger Street. Something about the store attracted his attention, and with the help of the community, he transformed it into the Trollinger Treasures thrift shop.
The entirety of the second-hand boutique’s proceeds benefit the Residential Treatment Service of Alamance. It furnishes 35 beds in 4 different homes for those living with alcoholism, addiction or mental illness. Because 65 percent of those being treated in RTSA are homeless, Trollinger Treasures provides job opportunities within its very own shop.
People usually come through with just the clothes on their back. They are measured and given clothes directly from Trollinger Treasures. Within a few weeks, many begin volunteering at the store to earn credit hours. These hours can be used to purchase items within the store. Those seeking employment opportunities can use it as a stepping-stone to get them back on their feet.
Listen as Shane Ball, a 28-year-old recovered alcoholic, tells his story.
